[origin of club name]
Urawa was the name of the city where Reds started their J. League history in 1993. The city of Urawa became part of the new city of Saitama in 2001 when it merged with the neighboring cities of Yono and Omiya. Reds retained the old name because of its popularity with fans.<\/P>
